Popular Credit Card Swipe Terminals

It's time to decide the exact POS terminal your business will utilize for processing transactions.  I've put together some of the most popular and widely-used terminal solutions on the market.  Some of these have been around for many years, while others are newer with the extra features your business may, or may not need.  Hopefully the previous sections on POS terminals have aided you in selecting the right terminal solution for your particular business needs.

Each of the terminals below are supported by ECHO, Inc.  I've found that they have some of the best prices on both new and refurbished terminals.

Before you dive into the exact features each terminal offers, here's a chart that shows exactly what each of these POS swipe terminals support and what they don't:

Terminal
Model
Credit Debit ECC ATM/Check
VeriFone Zon Jr XL X     X
VeriFone Tranz 330 X X   X
VeriFone Tranz 380 X X   X
VeriFone Tranz 420 X X   X
VeriFone Tranz 460 X X   X
VeriFone Omni 3200 X X X X

VeriFone Zon Jr XL
Zon Jr. Highlights:

Cheapest Terminal - Simple Credit Card Processing

Overview:

The Zon Jr XL has been around for a very long time and is the cheapest terminal available.  Its features are limited, however.  If you plan to just accept credit cards only, and don't mind having to add a separate printer, this is a possible solution you might be interested in.

VeriFone Tranz 330
Tranz 330 Highlights:

Allows For Optional External PIN Pad -
Long-Time Merchant Favorite

Overview:

Similar to the Zon Jr XL, but the Tranz 330 also offers the ability to add a PIN pad for debit card processing or a check MICR reader for check guarantee.  This terminal has been used for a very long time and has been a favorite with merchants.  It's a good durable and dependable processing terminal.

VeriFone Tranz 380
Tranz 380 Highlights:

Larger Memory Capacity For Transaction Storage

Overview:

Looks similar to the Tranz 330.  It comes with a larger memory bank allowing you to submit larger batch transactions at the end of business days.  Allows for external printer setup and addition of a PIN pad or a check MICR reader.

VeriFone Tranz 420
Tranz 420 Highlights:

Terrific Mobile Solution For Merchants On The Go

Overview:

Similar looks to the Tranz 460.  The Tranz 420 comes with the addition of a battery pack for traveling.  If you need the ability to process credit cards and more, away from the office, this is the solution for you.  It even has an interface where you can connect your cell phone so you can process transactions in real-time, wirelessly.  The unit also comes with an integrated printer as well.

VeriFone Tranz 460
Tranz 460 Highlights:

Integrated Terminal Solution

Overview:

Great, all-in-one solution with a small footprint.  Allows you to accept debit cards and guarantee checks.  Features a fast receipt printer.

VeriFone Omni 3200
Omni 3200 Highlights:

Thermal Printer - Processes Electronic Check Conversion

Overview:

Probably one the best printer-integrated VeriFone terminals available.  As noted in the chart, it processes all types of cards and allows for external PIN pad and future smart card reader/writer hook-up.  The thermal printer is fast and doesn't require ribbon changes like other receipt printers.  Very reliable unit that is sure to be trouble-free.

Hypercom T7E
T7E Highlights:

Stores Up To 1000 Transactions - Hot Keys

Overview:

T7E has a large memory bank and hot keys that allow for many one-touch functions, like batches, debit, check verification and more.

Hypercom T7P

T7P

Highlights:

Small Footprint - Integrated Printer - Hot Keys

Overview:

Similar operation as the T7E, but with the addition of an integrated printer.  Allows for addition of an external PIN pad.

Ingenico eN-Check 3000
eN-Check 3000 Highlights:

Electronic Check Conversion Only

Overview:

Features fast check reading, allows you to verify, guarantee, and electronically process checks.  If your business primarily accepts cash and checks only or, you already have a credit card terminal, eliminate unnecessary trips to the bank to make deposits.  The eN-Check 3000 from Ingenico will automatically make deposits for you.

Conclusion

Hopefully this guide has educated you and pointed you in the right direction to both choosing the right merchant account provider, and the right POS swipe terminal solution.  As mentioned previously throughout this guide, I highly recommend Thompson Merchant Services for all your credit card processing and terminal purchasing needs.  They have the best pricing available and house some of the best customer support around.  Whom ever you choose for your merchant account, take time to read over all agreements and don't allow yourself to be pushed into using one particular solution.  If the merchant account provider is truly interested in your success, they will be patient with you and provide you with any information needed to help in making a final decision.  I wish you great success and happy selling!
