Going
Back to the Basics
By:
Jim Conley II, MerchantSeek.com
With
the announcement earlier last week of Go.com
(formally
the search engine, Infoseek) leaving the Internet
and
eToys.com firing the rest of it's staff and
packing up, it makes
you wonder why so many dot-coms are failing. I
have the
reason for you, they skipped the basics and
thought they had to
spend millions in TV, print and radio ads to make
themselves a
huge success. Now I'm not knocking those types of
promotions. They work, but at the same time they
are ever so
quickly eating up their funds. Voter.com earlier
this week
called it quits because they ran out of funding.
It seems like
every day now so many dot-coms are failing. If
they only
implemented the marketing techniques I and so
many other
marketers have been presenting they wouldn't be
in the bind
they've put themselves in.
My words of wisdom this week are to not skip the
basic
marketing and proven fundamentals that make many
business
owners successful. Don't feel you have to spend
oodles and
oodles of money to get anywhere. I can show you a
number of
people who made themselves successful by sticking
to the
basic proven techniques that work. One that comes
to my mind
is Jim Daniels. He's the owner of the famous
site,
BizWeb2000.com. His site gets well over 100,000
unique
visitors each month and makes over $10,000 every
month.
He's a firm believer in low cost and free
promotion, and it
works.
Many people know the techniques to drive them to
success, but
they don't have the desire to implement them in
their business.
They seem to give the excuse, "...but I just
don't have the time."
My question to them is, why in the world did you
even setup
shop on the Internet then?
Success requires that you return to the basics
and make time to
become successful. If you can't make the time,
then hire
someone to work with you. Everyone can be
successful, but
not everyone chooses to be successful.
